Fine Art Lithograph, hand pulled on the same vintage Maroni press; printed with the same process used by Mucha. Includes certificate of authenticity.

Description

In 1895, artist Alphonse Mucha was hired by Sarah Bernhardt to create advertising posters using the lithographic process.  Parisians fell immediately in love with his style, later to be labeled, “art nouveau.”  An instant demand for the posters caused many to be stolen directly from wherever they were displayed on the city streets.

This beautiful image was part of his work with La Plume, a parisian monthly publication featuring poetry, short stories, illustrations and exhibition reviews.  La Plume was responsible for helping make posters a recognized art form.

All of Mucha‘s incomparable graphic traits are on display here; consummately rendered woman in profile, with ornamented halo behind her head, luxurious jewelry in her hair, and depicted in his formidable, sophisticated pastel palette. Includes certificate of authenticity.
