Description

Le Chat Noir (The Black Cat) was the first modern Parisian cabaret in Montmartre.  Rodolphe Salis opened its doors in 1881, provided live entertainment and libation to its patrons until his death in 1897.  The nightclub’s doors were permanently shut thereafter, but its reputation as the embodiment of bohemian french nightlife lives on today due to this iconic poster by Théophile=Alexandre Steinlen.  Currently the name has been adopted and still thrives throughout Paris in hotels and cafés.

The vintage poster was created in 1896 by Steinlen.  The lithograph was recreated using the same hand pulled  process on a vintage press in 1997 by renown chromist Jean Pierre Remond. Includes certificate of authenticity.
