Hand pulled lithograph on vintage press, sequentially numbered, three sheets. Includes certificate of authenticity.
Description
The Moulin Rouge commissioned one of their most loyal patrons, Toulouse-Lautrec to create a large advertising poster in 1891. Toulouse-Lautrec decided to pair down the audience into silhouettes and accentuate the dancers, evoking the Japanese print art that had captured the attention of France at that time. Famous can-can dancer La Goulue and the flexible “no bones” Valentine were favorite subjects of Toulouse-Lautrec paintings.
The vintage poster was from 1891. The lithograph was recreated using the same hand pulled process on a vintage press by renown chromist, Jean Pierre Remond in 1998, in the original three-sheet format. Includes certificate of authenticity.
